Getting ready for Toronto and more film festivals

July 29, 2021

No summer break is required in the film festival circuit, from the – just-finished – Cannes Film Festival to Locarno just around the corner; we want to keep you updated about the #TFLfilms making their way around the world.

The upcoming edition of the Toronto International Film Festival will be held from 9th to 18th September and will feature a nice bunch of familiar titles.

We are happy for the world premiere of YUNI by Kamila Andini (FeatureLab 2018) among the Platform Competition titles; the film focuses on an Indonesian teenage girl, when her dreams get bigger, the world around her gets smaller.
Still within Platform we spotted Silent Land by Aga Woszczyńska co-produced by our alumnus and tutor Giovanni Pompili from Kino Produzioni.

Within the Contemporary World Cinema section we’ll have OUT OF SYNC by Juanjo Giménez (FeatureLab 2018) - which will premiere during the Giornate degli Autori, COSTA BRAVA, LEBANON by Mounia Akl (FeatureLab 2018) – that will premiere just a few days before in Venice, MEDUSA by Anita Rocha da Silveira (ScriptLab 2017) – that recently premiered in Cannes, WHETHER THE WEATHER IS FINE by Carlo Francisco Manatad (FeatureLab 2017)  – that will be previously showcased in Locarno and SMALL BODY by Laura Samani (ScriptLab 2017 and FeatureLab 2018) - that premiered in Cannes.

Congratulations also to our alumni Michael Pearce that will present his film Encounter, to Edwin with his Vengeance is Mine, All Others Pay Cash, and to Nathalie Biancheri for her work Wolf.

Speaking of summer festivals, we want to wish the best of luck to Sonja Tarokić that will bring her #TFLFilm THE STAFFROOM to the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2021. The plot focuses on Anamarija, a newly arrived school counselor struggling between fitting in or doing the right thing.

Still in the Czech Republic, great job to our alumnus Olmo Omerzu for his film Bird Atlas. Also, three more alumni will be part of the First Cut + programme - featuring-length fiction films that are currently in post-production. Congrats to Michael Koch with the TFL project A PIECE OF SKY and to Michal Vinik!

Other films? Other festivals? Keep an eye on our news section that will be updated during August.
