TFL Meeting Event 2021: the Juries, the awards & the Coming Soon selection

November 2, 2021

Needless to say, over the next month the news that you will read on these pages will be related to one topic: the TFL Meeting Event. If you don’t know what we are talking about you probably missed the previous news.

Let’s now put a spotlight on the awards that will be given during our main annual event and on the jurors that will assess our ScriptLab or FeatureLab 2021 projects. Finally, we’ll also unveil the titles of the Coming Soon event, a preview of TFL films almost ready for the festival circuit.

FeatureLab’s Production Awards
The 10 projects in an advanced stage of development from FeatureLab will compete for the TFL Production Awards (up to a total of € 180,000), assigned by an international jury composed of: Vanja Kaluderčić • Artistic Director International Film Festival Rotterdam; Juliette Schrameck • Producer of Agat Films & Cie; Denes Nagy • Film Director, winner of the Silver Bear at Berlinale 2021 for his TFL film Natural Light; Davide Nardini • Head of Italian Scripted Originals of Amazon Studios; Michael Weber • Managing Director of The Match Factory.

Among the TFL Production Awards, two prizes will be dedicated to FeatureLab projects involving European and non-European production companies, each awarded by the jurors thanks to the support of Creative Europe - MEDIA sub-programme support to International Co-production Funds.

Eurimages Co-production Development Award
The Council of Europe’s Eurimages Fund has joined forces with TFL to award the Eurimages Co-production Development Award: a cash-prize of € 20,000 assigned to one project among FeatureLab or ScriptLab ones by: Alexander Bohr • Associate Producer of ZDF/Arte; Mathilde Henrot • Programmer of Sarajevo Film Festival & Locarno Film Festival; Nathalie Capiau • Domestic Promotion & Eurimages Representative.

CNC Award
The ScriptLab projects are eligible for the CNC Award, offered by CNC – Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée. This writing grant of € 8,000 will support the respective writer/director in the work after the participation in TorinoFilmLab and will be assigned by a Jury composed of: Mette Damgaard-Sorensen • Artistic Director at New Danish Screen; Marcin Łuczaj • Head of Acquisitions at New Europe Film Sales: María Zamora • Producer and Partner at Avalon Distribución Audiovisual.

Also, the 20 projects that this year have participated in ScriptLab, as well as the 10 of FeatureLab 2021, will compete for the ArteKino International Award that foresees a grant of € 6,000.

TorinoFilmLab reserves a bunch of special prizes focused on sustainability.
The TFL White Mirror, created in 2019, is an award of € 3,000 dedicated to a ScriptLab project and supports stories that tackle environmental issues, sustainability or any related changes happening in today’s world, through a personal and engaging tone.

In 2020, thanks to the partnership with Trentino Film Commission, TFL launched the Green Filming Awards supporting a sustainable approach to production. It is addressed to the projects developed within FeatureLab and it will foresee a monetary contribution of up to € 2,000 to be invested in a green manager support, addressed to this year's TFL Production Awards - winning projects.

Furthermore, FeatureLab projects may also get the following collateral prizes, thanks to TFL’s partners:

- Post-Production Award consists of a grant  of € 5,000 in image post-production services at Amsterdam-based Filmmore and € 5,000 in sound post-production services at Posta sound studio in Amsterdam, as well as a scholarship to the producer of the winning project to participate in the annual post-production workshop of Amsterdam Post Lab.

- Sub-Ti Award & Sub-Ti Access Award, offered by Sub-Ti and Sub-Ti Access, respectively provide English or Italian or German subtitles (value € 1,500€ - € 2,000) and subtitles for the deaf and hearing impaired, and audio description for the blind and visually impaired, with audio subtitles in English or Italian (value € 3,500€ - € 4,500).
