TFL MEETING EVENT 2021: the awarded projects

Everything comes to an end - even the 14th TFL Meeting Event - and TorinoFilmLab goes big every time with a proper Awards Ceremony wrapping up the whole year and coming after 150 hours of training, 500 one-to-one meetings with decision makers, various pitching sessions here in Turin and especially after many months of hard work on the projects. 

Without further ado, which are the TFL awarded projects of 2021?

The 4 Production Awards up to a total of € 170,000 went to the FeatureLab projects:

FAMILY TIME, written & directed by Tia Kouvo and produced by Jussi Rantamäki
Each member of a working-class Finnish family seeks human connection in different ways.

HOME, written & directed by Or Sinai and produced by Adi Bar Yossef
After 15 years of providing her family from Israel, Bella returns to Ukraine to rediscover her home.

THINGS THAT YOU KILL, written & directed by Alireza Khatami and produced by Elisa Sepulveda-Ruddoff
Unable to grieve, Ali coerces his enigmatic gardener to revenge his mother’s suspicious death.

An additional Production Award of € 50,000 was awarded thanks to the support of the Creative Europe - MEDIA sub-programme of the European Union to:

DAYAO SWIMS AGAINST THE FLOW, written & directed by Tao Zhang, co-written by Jérémie Dubois and produced by Vincent Wang
Impossible to resist the appeal of the city – unless you’re simple nature boy Dayao.

All 4 winners of the Production Awards also received the Green Filming Awards, which include the creation of a sustainability plan for the production phase with coverage of any extra costs up to a maximum of € 2,000, plus an additional € 2,000 to invest in the collaboration of a green manager allocated by the Trentino Film Commission.

The prestigious Eurimages Co-production Development Award of € 20,000 - for the first time to a TorinoFilmLab project - was granted to the ScriptLab project:

THE WOLF WILL TEAR YOUR IMMACULATE HANDS written & directed by Nathalie Álvarez Mesén
In this house, women will not be tamed anymore. A tropical gothic tale in Colonial Latin America.

While the CNC Award (€ 8,000) offered by CNC - Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée went to the ScriptLab title:

UNFINISHED PAINTING by Portuguese director Catarina Vasconcelos.
A woman wants to die. Coming to meet her, Death feels doubts about their own craft.

The ArteKino International Award, which includes a contribution of € 6,000, was also assigned to a ScriptLab project:

THE MOUNTAIN BRIDE by Maura Delpero.
Last year of World War II. In the Italian Alps, a single rifle shot ends a young woman’s innocence.

Among the awards given by the TFL partners to the FeatureLab projects, the Post-Production Award went to:
ZE written & directed by the Mongolian director Lkhagvadulam Purev-Ochir and produced by Katia Khazak,
A teenage shaman falls in love with a girl, shattering his fragile existence in modern Mongolia.
The award is offered by Filmmore, Posta and APostLab, and consists of € 10,000 in audio and video post-production services, plus a scholarship to participate in the post-production workshop.

The Sub-ti Award (consisting in the creation of English, Italian or German subtitles worth up to € 2,000) was given to HOME, written & directed by Or Sinai and produced by Adi Bar Yossef and the Sub-ti Access Award (including the production of subtitles for the deaf and hearing-impaired, as well as audio descriptions for the blind and visually impaired, and audio subtitles up to a value of € 4,500) to FAMILY TIME, written & directed by Tia Kouvo and produced by Jussi Rantamäki.

Finally, TFL grants another special sustainability award, € 3,000 TFL White Mirror, that went to a ScriptLab project that tackles environmental issues: 
THE FUTURE IS AN ELDER COW written & directed by Janis Rafa and produced by Konstantinos Kontovrakis.
In a small town ravaged by infertility, rumours spread that women started giving birth to animals.

Don’t forget, the TFL Meeting Event will continue - from 6th to 10th December - with an online programme enriched by panels, talks and insights to reveal additional facets of the TFL community made of creatives and professionals.
